PostSubject: Alfea's attendance policies   Mon Apr 08, 2013 1:11 am

First topic message reminder :

Here is a question I have raised with another male fan of Winx club I know. We have actually debated it in length and I thought this forum might enjoy taking a stab at the subject.

Would Alfeia admit a male student if they wanted to become a fairy? I can tell you that I would be this student if Winx club was real and I was magic aware. The fact that Alfeia has male teachers also leads me to believe they would. The belief that fairies are always female is actually not true outside of Winx club. In mythology there are examples of male fairies King Oberon being the most obvious example. As a fantasy writer I have created male fairies in my stories as well and i have read many a fantasy novel or story with male fairies.

On that same note would Red Fountain allow female students? I can't think of any reason not for that one. What about Cloud Tower? I would think unless there is some magical limitation within the winx universe making it pointless that a magical world wouldn't discriminate based on gender.

^Alfea,Red Fountain and Cloud Tower being Sexist? It's highly possible, I mean the Elementaries/Jr.High's are not (according to Stella's flash back in Season 2 as well as Mirta's there were boys in both classes) yet when they get to High School/College it's all one sex in either school. I would like them to introduce a male but diversifying the schools would be challenging. I guess since curiosity is Bloom's department she could ask how come there aren't any boy fairies, girl specialists and barely any wizards? Then because all 3 schools are big on ancient tradition (we all know the teachers are at least 100 or older) Faragonda gives her an outdated answer, like because only girls can be fairies and witches, and only boys are aloud to be specialists to which (no pun intended) Bloom then points out the stupidity of this by using The male teachers, Nabu, Roy and Saladin as boys who can use magic and are wizards so a boy should be able to be a fairy and uses herself before she discovered her magic to prove that a girl could be a specialist (just look at the way she beat down that ghoul with a stick). Faragonda might decide to side step this conversation by saying that those three are exceptions to the rules and wants no further questioning. Bloom then meets a pre-teen boy who wants to be a fairy and came to Alfea to learn about positive magic and what not there but has been rejected because it's a girls only thing. Bloom says that the head mistress was wrong to say that and gives the boy a few quick lessons.
Angered at this, Bloom decides to not only suggest to the Winx and Specialists to start their own magic school of equality, but quit their assisting jobs at Alfea and Red Fountain, because they are a bit annoyed by this as well after having been on Earth where things are more or less equal, spending time there every year, they agree and proceed to start a magic school on Earth in addition to love and pet. (Now that would be a good season 6)

^There are but that doesn't mean certain places are big on the idea of allowing a boy to grow wings or a girl to handle a sword.

In pixie hollow, boys are magical. But they are addressed as "Sparrow men" and not "Fairies".

A girl can definitely handle a sword, but a boy in a fairy costume would look kinda weird, lol.
Maybe boys can only be wizards and not fairies?

^ Are you saying that Terrence is weird because he has wings? there are several male fairies in many movies. I see no problem with a boy having wings, they just don't need to be glittery, I'd opt for translucent or feathery with them. We don't know about that in winx, Let's give Bloom more questions about the magical dimension, she still has some who's to say this isn't one of them.

There are? I never noticed. But I watched the movies a long time ago, so I don't remember much. Anyways, I never said they are weird, I said they look weird. Not the same thing. And I guess I could have expressed myself better. Boys with wings are okay, but how would their outfit look like? It wouldn't be as glittery as the girls' costume, that's for sure. I don't know, the name "fairy" doesn't really suit a boy... I already saw male fairies in animes, but never in cartoons, maybe that's an issue they don't want to mess with because of the controversy.

Alfea is probably an all-girls school, so I suppose there are dozens of other schools in Magix. Who knows, maybe one of them teaches boys how to be "fairies", or "sparrow men", as SophilixLivia said.

Their outfits are probably non sparkly and linked to their personality in Charmix (Stella brought this up in 4kids, and it never was discredited about that) Enchantix is the story book level so something along Peter Pan's attire which is always changing
